Duane & Jessie - Scranton Wedding Photography

We first met Duane and Jessie back in September when I posted their engagement photos.

I always like it when two genuinely nice people get married.

It gives me hope in the institution.

I wish you two nothing but happiness!

Enjoy the photos.

My New Boy! - Photographer Scranton Pa

I've been a bad blogger lately. Mainly due to a combination of working, and Thomas.

Thomas?

Yes! Number three child arrived safely and happily at 5:09am on September 19, 2011. He was a modest 8.1lbs and 20 inches long.

We had been anxiously waiting for our new friend to arrive, and 9 months worth of waiting can be harder than one thinks. But now that our boy is here, I am overwhelmed, as I was with our other two, wondering what awaits us.

He looks up at me with his big dark eyes, with that penetrating stare, issuing a challenge.

Hope I don't let him down. Never having known my father, I understand what I have to do for him and my other kiddies.

I'm up for it.

Enjoy some photos from our overnight labor party!

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Wedding Photography!

I met someone at Starbucks yesterday, gave them my card, and they said to me "Do you shoot weddings too?"

"Why, yes I do!"

"Do you have a portfolio?"

"Yep. Right there on the website."

"I'll call you tomorrow and we'll talk some more."

Well they did call, and now I am booked for their wedding next year.

The moral of the story? It's not hard to book me for your wedding, and it's not too early to book for 2012.

Scranton weddings.

Wilkes-Barre weddings.

Anywhere weddings.

Give me a call. 570.592.2938

I met Duane and Jessie after I shot some engagement photos for my friends Matt and Cassie. The two of them booking me to do their wedding was a direct result of those photos. So thanks to Matt and Cassie! Lol!

Here's the thing I learned about Duane and Jessie.

They absolutely delight in each others presence. Unabashedly.

They are an awesome couple, super cool to be around, and I can't wait to shoot their wedding this weekend!

So now, with a few days until their super spectacular nuptials this Saturday the 10th, I present to you some of their fancy dandy engagement photos!

Wilkes-Barre Senior Photographer Loses Right Rear Tire In Mishap!!

So I was leaving the craftsmen at Lyons Barber Shop yesterday, going past the Home Depot in Wilkes-Barre when I heard a bang behind me.

Then a flapping noise followed.

Of course the bang was indicative of some terrible fate that had befallen my right rear tire, and as I feverishly hit the "info" button on my steering wheel I learned that my tire pressure was down to 14!

I was able to get my tire in for repairs to a local service station, and saw this bit of Americana hanging on the wall.

I had to photograph it!

Since I went through such Hell yesterday, the least you can do is friend me at Facebook!

And visit my website too. Cuz you're cool like that!

Power

If you’ve ever questioned the power of an image, consider the current news cycle. The US government has decided it won’t show images of the dead Bin Laden.

If you’re wondering why, the answer is simple. A photograph–an image–is an incredibly powerful thing. It can be a tool, intentionally or incidentally. It can tell an entire story of a month, year, decade, or a generation, captured in perhaps just 1/1000 of a second. An image change a life, end a war, start a riot, bring someone joy, inspire a revolution, open or close a debate. An image can move the world.

My point has nothing to do with the governments treatment, or lack thereof, of the Bin Laden image…should or shouldn’t, left or right in America, good versus evil, or any other debate along political lines. That is not my point, and this is not the forum here for those discussions. Don’t go there. Instead it has everything to do with the proof of the power of an image. Therein lies the only reason that this debate rages on. If it weren’t powerful, there would be nothing to say.

My point is a simple one and specifically this: if you’ve ever doubted if, in this modern era with technology moving a light speed, whether there is still respect and value for the 130 year old concept of a photo, think again. If you’ve ever wondered if the power of a photograph is waning, think again. The power of a photograph is at an all time high. Sometimes we… need these reminders.

Consider this as you go to work with your camera.

iPhonery

I've wanted an iPhone since they were first launched way back in 2007. But I was also a Verizon customer, and that meant that I was left out unless I was willing to switch back to AT&T.

And that wasn't gonna happen.

So I waited and was rewarded in February when I got a special email notifying me that the iPhone4 was coming to Verizon! So of course I was one of the first to get my grubby mitts on it, and I love it.

So instantly of course I started taking pictures with its 5 megapixel camera.

Let me tell ya, when you do not have any control over the aperture or shutter speed or iso, it is extremely freeing. You have to find other ways to let your creativity flow, and the image really takes on a new importance when you don't have to worry about settings. I think that as photographers we get too bogged down in the technical aspects of the craft and forget that it's really about the image.

Using my iPhone has increased my sight and how I see things.

I am actually toying with the idea of shooting a wedding exclusively with the iPhone.

We'll see if that works out.

These few shots were taken with my iPhone 4. These and many more can be viewed at my  Facebook page. Go to the photo album "iPhonery" to view more and maybe be my friend as well.

Cuz it's good to have friends.

A Year Ago Today

A year ago today we arrived at the hospital at 6am. We hadn't really slept, the excitement was almost too much, knowing that you would soon be here.

A year ago today we waited and waited for your arrival. The doctor kept saying "soon". It seemed like forever, but it really wasn't.

A year ago today they said something was wrong. They rushed to deliver you and my heart sank as the doctor looked around at the lack of staff and yelled out "help!"

A year ago today they tried to make you breathe, for a few helpless moments we watched them work on you.

And finally we heard a tiny little cry.

Thank God!

Now today as I look at you, I marvel at everything you do.

Except spitting your food at me. That's not too marvelous. But everything else...love it!

Your constant smile, your big bright eyes that look out at the world with wonderment, your index finger that boops me on the nose. I love it all.

A year ago today I couldn't wait to see you, and today I can't wait to see what you'll do next.

I love you, buddy.

Happy birthday, Little Man!
